According to America's Health Ranking website, the prevalence of teenage pregnancy is higher among teens from low-income and low educational attainment families, those in foster care or living in rural areas, and teens from non-Hispanic Whites such as (American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic, non-Hispanic Black, and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander).
Most teen mothers are more likely to have subsequent pregnancies during their teen years, drop out of high school, and face unemployment.
In Georgia, the percentage of teens giving birth between 18-19 is 74%. Nevertheless, 60% of women (both teens and women in their 20s) describe their pregnancy as unplanned. Health disparities remain among young women of color and young women living in poverty. We know that adolescent pregnancy will continue to be a significant problem regardless of our efforts.
